Rabat – It has been over 40 hours since 5 year-old boy Rayan has been stuck in a 32-meters deep water well in the rural commune of Tamrout, near Bab Berred in the outskirts of Chefchaouen, northern Morocco.
According to reports, Rayan is still alive and authorities have slid oxygen masks, food, and water into the well. An on-board camera was also able to film the stranded boy.
Videos shared online show that the boy has minor injuries on his head.
The unfortunate event received nationwide coverage and many Moroccans are closely following the case on social media platforms.
Meanwhile, local civil protection services, residents, and representatives of the local authorities faced a second sleepless night after many failed attempts to rescue the little boy.
Yesterday night, members from a caving association in Chefchaouen made several attempts to go down the well but to no avail since the deeper they go, the narrower it becomes.
To date, five bulldozers alongside rescue services, local authorities, auxiliary forces, and gendarmerie, under the supervision of the regional authorities, have been engaged in relentless efforts to save Rayan.
The bulldozers are digging in parallel with the water well. The excavation work has reached a depth of over 19 meters, while the depth of the well is 32 meters.
Rescuers are working delicately on this operation to avoid any risk of landslides.
On social media platforms, Moroccan netizens are waiting to hear good news about Rayan while showing solidarity with everyone who is participating in the rescue operation, especially his family and loved ones.
