Rabat – Morocco’s Minister Delegate of Digital Transition and Administration Reform Ghita Mezzour launched on January 14 ‘MoroccoTech,’ a national brand to promote the country’s digital economy.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mezzour stressed that Morocco is a major regional hub, with one of the best Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) infrastructures, top young talents in IT, successful startups, and the best offshoring destinations in Africa.

The offshoring sector in the kingdom counts more than 128,000 jobs and over $1.5 billion in export sales.

As the digital economy worldwide is worth trillions of dollars, Mezzour underlined that MoroccoTech brand is committed to further expanding the country’s digital economy by promoting it as a “premium technology producer and a top investment destination.”

MoroccoTech aims to take Morocco to the top 10 world destinations of tech investment by building an inclusive, sustainable, human-centered, and digital-first society.

The minister delegate recalled the pivotal role of the digital sector during the COVID-19 crisis, noting, “thanks to digital tools, employees could work remotely, and students could learn online.”

The shift towards digital technologies in times of COVID-19 has rapidly enabled the country to better manage the health crisis.

In the recent decade, Morocco enjoyed relatively high internet access. Mezzour stressed that the country ranks among the top three in Africa in terms of internet coverage and quality, emphasizing that the national internet coverage is currently 93%, with an annual increase of 17%.

She further recalled King Mohammed VI’s commitment to leverage the digital economy for social-economic impact and ended by announcing that the brand will launch several initiatives in the coming months to strengthen the digital economy in Morocco.

MoroccoTech brand aims to serve as an investment platform to boost digitalization and attract foreign investors by welcoming global companies and institutions to join its movement.

Organized both in-person and livestreamed in three languages, the inauguration ceremony is 8-hours long and anticipates the attendance of over 64 experts and guests from around the world.

Also in the event, individuals from Morocco’s ICT landscape from the private and public sector will participate in eight panels to discuss the governance of MoroccoTech, the diaspora’s role in promoting the brand, investment opportunities in the ICT sector, and the offshoring.

The attendees will also discuss the main components of the Moroccan ecosystem of Morocco tech, namely fintech, agritech, and healthtech.
