Rabat – The French embassy in Morocco announced the launch of a special ferry between Tanger Med and Marseille to allow stranded French or other European citizens and permanent residents in France to return home.

According to three tweets by the French Embassy, the first trip is scheduled for January 19, 2022. The target is vehicle owners with French and  European citizenship and permanent residency in France. Their vehicles must be registered in Europe.

On Twitter, the French Embassy in Morocco invited potential travelers to fill out a form for each vehicle and individual. Only a valid registration allows them to embark on the special ferry.

The French shipping company La Meridionale French is in charge of the crossing. On Twitter, the embassy announced that the boarding schedule will be communicated in the coming days.

La Meridionale will contact individuals registered on the list to purchase their tickets.

The embassy noted that the special flights and crossings operate only in the direction from Morocco to France.

Once individuals leave Moroccan territory, they cannot return to the country as long as border closures continue.

The travel ban was extended until January 31, 2022. With the new wave of COVID-19 cases, the future is uncertain and further extensions of the travel ban are expected.

As of January 7, Morocco reached 983,629 confirmed cases with a total of 946,289 recoveries and 14,883 deaths.

Additionally, 24,583,273 Moroccans received their first vaccine dose when only 3,341,726 have received their booster shot.
