Rabat – Morocco’s Consulate General in Bordeaux organized a Consular trip to the Western French city of Poitiers on Saturday, with the intention of bringing the consulate closer to Moroccans living in the city.

Poitiers is located more than 260km away from Bordeaux, meaning the trip might alleviate transport difficulties for Moroccans from the city hoping to access services.

A statement from the Consulate says the trip coincided with the celebration of International Migrants Day.

The operation, compliant with all health measures in force in France, saw a large influx of Moroccans living in Poitiers, who welcomed the move, according to consulary sources.

Ahmed Nouri Salimi, the Consul General, got the chance to meet some of Poitiers’ political figures.

Among these was Sacha Houlie, member of the French National Assembly and former executive of France’s ruling political party “La République En Marche!”

Salimi also met Léonore Moncond’huy, who has been the mayor of Poitiers since July 2020, as well as Jacques Savatier, former member of the French National Assembly’s France-Morocco Friendship Group.

According to the consulate, the meetings gave an opportunity to discuss the state of Poitiers’ Moroccan community, as well as prospects for cooperation between the political forces of the city with Morocco.
