APM Terminals Tangier Wins World’s Best Terminal Award for 2021

Rabat – Moroccan terminal operator APM Terminals in Med Port Tangier has been awarded the “Best Terminal in the World” prize for 2021, outclassing 75 Port Operator APM Terminals worldwide.

The award was handed to West Med Terminals General Manager Keld Pedersen and APM Terminals Tangier Operations Director Rex Jackson at a ceremony held in The Hague, Netherlands.

A leading operator in Morocco, with direct services to 170 ports in 67 countries around the world, APM Terminals Tangier was elected by the port operator APM Terminals as the “Terminal of the Year 2021” among 75 terminals in more than 40 countries.

The award highlights APM Terminals Tangier’s exceptional achievements in terms of customer satisfaction, design, and the accomplishment of a new operation model based on standardization.

It also outlines the terminals’ transformational framework in compliance with international safety standards and strong commitment of its human capital.

Despite the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic consequences in different sectors, the Moroccan terminal leader has continued its growth by achieving more than 2.2 million TEU in 2020 and is working this year to reach an annual capacity of 5 million containers for a quay length of 2000 meters.

In a press release, APM Terminals stressed that several factors have contributed to this achievement, including the company’s social stability, its employee engagement index of around 85%, its high operational flexibility, as well as its constant availability and reliability in terms of handling equipment.

APM Terminals Tangier designed and implemented a new operating model inspired by the automotive industry — Pull system instead of Push — for a better fluidity and optimization of production tools, the statement added.

APM Terminals Tangier said it aims to transform itself into a “lean terminal” to achieve higher levels of customer satisfaction and stable operational performances.

The Tangier Med Port is currently ranked 25th worldwide, surpassing other massive ports in the Mediterranean such as the Piraeus Port in Greece, as well as the Port of Valencia and the Port of Algeciras in Spain.
