Rabat- Israel’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz received on Thursday the director of the Moroccan Liaison Office in Tel Aviv, Abderrahim Bayoudh, at the Israeli Defense Ministry headquarters.

“It was a pleasure to host today the head of the delegation of the Kingdom of Morocco in Israel, Abdel Rahim Bayoudh,” the Israeli official said in a tweet.

The two officials discussed the details of Gantz November’s visit to Morocco, in which the Israeli official signed a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening defense partnership between Israel and Morocco.

According to official comments quoted in both the Israeli and Moroccan press, the deal mainly concerns the development of a project to manufacture drones in Morocco.

“We look forward to expanding the great relations between our two countries,” added Gantz on Twitter.

Israel’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz arrived in Morocco, November 23, to sign military agreements to strengthen security cooperation with Morocco.

The minister’s two-days visit aimed to “lay the foundation stone for future security relations between Israel and Morocco,” France24 quoted an Israeli official as saying.

Last month, Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces (FAR) purchased Israel’s Skylock Dome System to strengthen FAR’s defensive and territory control capabilities and preserve the country’s national and strategic stability.

The North African country also spent an estimated $48 million to purchase three Israeli Heron drones, a type of reconnaissance military equipment, to combat extremist or insurgent groups in Western Sahara.

Alongside the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Sudan, Morocco normalized ties with Israel, in 2020, under the mediation of the administration of US President Donald Trump.

Nearly a year after Morocco and Israel re-established their diplomatic relations, the two countries have signed several deals and partnerships that aim to boost bilateral cooperation on a broad range of fronts, especially defense, military, trade, and tourism.
