Morocco’s General Elections: Voting Rate Reached 12% at 12 P.M.

Rabat – The participation rate in the general elections in Morocco reached 12% at 12 p.m. across the country.

The Ministry of Interior said in a statement that the rate covers the legislative, regional and municipal elections of September 8.

The statement said that the data is based on statistics collected from the districts, prefectures, and provinces across Morocco.

The elections in Morocco started at 8 a.m.

In 2016, the participation rate in the elections reached 10% by 12 p.m.

The Ministry of Interior said today that the process of voting is going under normal conditions.

The elections are the third of their kind under the 2011 constitution and the eleventh since the North African country gained independence.

The voting operation will be conducted on the basis of the national identity cards.

Local reports suggest that 18 people are set to participate in the elections this year including three million voters.

About 31 parties are eager for 7 p.m. to explore the results of the votes, which will secure them a place within the House of Representatives.

The Justice and Development (PJD), the National Rally of Independence, among other popular parties in the country are all hunting for votes to maintain a position in the government coalition.

With major development that took place in the past four years, it is hard to predict who is going to make it this year.

Recent statistics on unemployment and crisis in key sectors led several people to believe that no major change will take place in the aftermath of elections.

It remains to be seen whether the turnout of the elections will experience an increase in the coming hours.
