Rabat- Gas company Chariot has entered into an agreement with offshore drilling company Stena Drilling in order to utilize its drilling rig for the Anchois gas appraisal well within the Lixus licence, offshore Morocco.
Drilling operations are set to begin in December 2021 and are expected to take up to approximately 40 days.
Chariot’s current objectives are to confirm the amount of gas and the quality of the reservoir in order to establish feasibility for future development and potentially deepen the well to reach reserves hidden at previously unexplored depths
According to CEO Adnonis Pouroulis, “the signing of this contract is an important moment in our planned drilling campaign for the Lixus Licence, offshore Morocco.”
“As a team, we have been keenly focused on delivering the drilling campaign that we recently raised money for, and we are pleased that this contract award brings us a step closer to achieving this. We look forward to keeping our stakeholders appraised as we get closer to the spud date.” he further added.
The area included in the Lixus license covers an area of approximately 2390 kilometers, north of an existing Chariot project.
The gas company appointed David Brecknock for the position of Drilling Manager, with the objective to lead the Anchois gas appraisal well drilling.
“David has considerable experience with high profile deepwater offshore drilling with over 20 years of international experience gained with Enterprise, Shell, BG, Devon, Perenco, Ophir as well as leading Chariot’s drilling in Namibia in 2018,” the company stated
Stena Don, the rig which will be used for the appraisal, is “semi-submersible, suitable for drilling, completion, and workover operations,” according to Rigzone.
Morocco has continued “to support the development of domestic gas prospects to support the fast-growing industrial sector in [the country] and contribute to its global competitiveness by providing a cheap, clean and reliable source of energy,” declared Moulay Hafid Elalamy, the minister of industry, trade and green and digital economy.
