Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DMN) shared a forecast, expecting a new heatwave of orange level from Thursday to Monday across the country.
In a weather notice, DMN said that temperatures are set to reach 49 degrees Celcius in some regions.
Temperatures varying between 42 and 47 degrees will hit the provinces of Beni Mellal, Berkane, Boulemane, Chefchaouen, and Driouch on Thursday.
The same temperatures will take place in El Hajeb, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Errachidia, Fez, Fquih Ben Saleh, Guercif, Jerrada, Khenifra, Khouribga, Meknes, Moulay Yacoub, Nador, and Ouezzane.
The heatwaves of similar temperatures will also concern Oujda-Angad, Sefrou, Settat, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Taounate, Taourirt, Tata, Taza, and Zagora.
From Friday to Monday, temperatures will be around 42 and 45 degrees in the provinces of Aousserd, Assa-Zag, Benslimane, Berrechid, Chichaoua, Es-Semara, Essaouira, Kenitra, Khemisset, Larache, Safi, Sidi Bennour, and Youssoufia.
The same weather will concern Berkane, Boulemane, Chefchaouen, El Hajeb, Errachidia, Guerif, Jerada, Khenifra, Nador, Driouch, Ouezzane, Oujda-Angad, Sefrou, Taourirt, Taza, and Zagora.
The provinces of Marrakech, Rehamna, Taroudant, Beni Mellal, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Fez, Fquih Ben Salah, Khouribga, Meknes, Moulay Yacoub, Settat, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Taounate, and Tata will experience a heat wave ranging between 45 and 47 degrees.
Temperatures will range between 45 and 49 degrees from Saturday and Monday in the provinces of Agadir-Ida-Ou Tanane, Boujdour, Chtouka-Ait Baha, Guelmim, Inezgane-Ait-Melloul, Oued Ed-Dahab, Sidi Ifni, Tan-Tan, and Tiznit.
A major rise in temperatures is also expected over the North Atlantic plains starting Friday, DMN concluded.
