Rabat – The success rate among blind and visually impaired students in Morocco’s baccalaureate (university entrance) exams this year reached 92.95%.

The Alawite Organization for the Welfare of the Blind in Morocco, which is chaired by Princess Lalla Lamia, said in a statement that the highest grade among the group was 17.09. The grade was obtained by student Reda Kreish, from the Mohammed VI Institute for the Education of the Blind in Témara.

For the Alawite Organization, these results play a vital role in the national process of inclusion, as it allows the freshly graduated students to access various opportunities.

Visually impaired students benefit from adapted exams, as part of authorities’ efforts to establish an appropriate assessment mechanism and examination system within the national educational system.

Such measures are meant to drive forward the need to promote inclusive and equal opportunities. According to the Alawite Organization, visually impaired students’ high success rate in this year’s exams confirm the notion that they are as competent as other children and can achieve as much as them when given the opportunity.

While candidates with disabilities take adapted tests, the material is based on the same curriculum required from all students enrolled in the moroccan national educational system. The subjects are the same for both the regional and national baccalaureate tests as for the rest of Moroccan students.

The adjusted tests are closed or semi-closed, as well as true or false questions; some exercises are multiple choice, connecting questions, ranking questions, short answer questions, and fill-in-the-blank problems. In some cases, candidates are also asked to provide a brief argumentation for their answers in some cases.

Disabled students have the right to benefit from adapted or customized exams in all Moroccan educational establishments, both public and private. The ministry of education also allows for accompaniment or assistance of disabled candidates under special conditions.
