Rabat – The president of Morocco’s Special Commission for the Development (CSMD) Model, Chakib Benmoussa, presented a general report today on the new development model in front of a diverse delegation of foreign diplomats at Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The diplomats hailed from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Japan, and many other partner nations.

Benmoussa presented the development model to King Mohammed VI on May 25, 2021, following the 2019 Throne Day speech when the King announced Morocco’s new human-centered approach to development in the kingdom.

The new development model focuses on revamping multiple sectors of Moroccan society, such as agriculture, education, health, investment, and taxes.

The National Human Development Observatory (ONDH) recently released data from a survey that collected data between 2012-2019. According to the survey, “poverty concerns one in two Moroccans.”

Morocco’s new development model falls in accordance with King Mohammed VI’s new social security protection plan. The King announced the social security project in mid-April. He explained that the goal is to generalize universal healthcare to previously excluded categories of Moroccans by 2022, increase the number of federal funding recipients by 2024, and expand pension payouts to eligible employees by 2025.

After Benmoussa presented the development model to King Mohammed VI, the King called on the CSMD to publish the development report and to explain the new reforms to development stakeholders and partners, as well as to the Moroccan society at large.

Attending yesterday’s presentation ceremony were diplomatic representatives from countries that enjoy strong relations with Morocco, and their presence at the event signaled commitment to strengthening the existing ties.

In January 2021, Saudi Arabia and Qatar renewed their support for Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara and stressed the importance of relations with Morocco at the 41st Summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

For Benmoussa, Morocco’s implementation of the new development model and social protection plan serve as evidence of the kingdom’s forward-thinking strategy for a more prosperous and inclusive future for all Moroccans.

Members of Morocco’s Istiqlal Party recently reaffirmed their support for the social development model, adding that Morocco must become less reliant on external powers and push for self-reliance.
