Rabat – Morocco moved up 10 places in terms of  improving the business environment to occupy the 87th position in a world ranking that affects 189 countries.

According to a report by the World Bank (WB) on the business environment in the world for 2014, Morocco has risen from 97th to 87th place in the world rankings and is among the 29 countries in the report of the World Bank, which have made ??significant progress in improving the business environment, the  Moroccan ministry in charge of general affairs and governance said in a communiqué.

At the regional level, Morocco has achieved the second performance in countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), who in their majority showed a regression in improving their business environment.

This performance, the ministry said, is to the credit of the reforms undertaken by the government, including the facilitation of procedures for establishing companies, the transfer of ownership and cross-border trade  and adoption of statement and electronic payment.

Through these reforms , the government intends to promote the economic and administrative environment, further enhance the attractiveness of Morocco for foreign investment and encourage domestic investment to improve the productivity and competitiveness of the Moroccan companies in all sectors, allowing them to contribute to the economic development and the creation of employment opportunities.

The majority of the reforms has been undertaken as part of the National Committee of the business environment (CNEA), chaired by the head of government, in partnership with the General Confederation of Enterprises of Morocco (CGEM) and the contribution of ministerial departments concerned and private partners.

The Ministry said that the country’s business environment will further improve after the entry into force of decrees relating to building permits and the application, starting from 1 January 2014, of the new decree on public procurement.
