Rabat – In the midst of the ongoing Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip, a heartbreaking video captured a young Palestinian boy trembling after an airstrike tore through the city while he was asleep.
The video showed a glimpse of the profound impact of the conflict on Palestinian children and how it has shattered their sense of security and left lasting emotional scars.
The Israeli assault on Gaza, which began on October 7, has seen a distressing death toll, claiming the lives of more than 3,300 Palestinians, a third of whom are children.
Israel’s relentless aggression has perpetuated a cycle of trauma, pushing four out of five children in Gaza into a state of “depression, grief, and fear,” as reported by the UK-based charity Save the Children in 2022.
The repeated exposure to violence has resulted in widespread emotional and psychological distress among Palestinian children. Half of Gaza’s 2.3 million population is under 18 years of age.
This cycle of violence has left over half of the children in Gaza struggling with suicidal thoughts and the trauma of witnessing the deaths of their peers, according to the report.
Amid the chaos, parents in Gaza are grappling with the difficult task of trying to restore a sense of normalcy for their children.
While many Palestinian children are struggling with the trauma of Israel’s latest attacks, hundreds have tragically lost their lives and were robbed of their childhood.
The UK-based charity revealed that one Palestinian child lost their life approximately every 15 minutes since October 7.
The impact of this aggression is nothing short of devastating, with children losing their homes and sense of security at an alarming rate. Many of the displaced families are seeking refuge in hospitals throughout Gaza.
Adding to an already dire situation, an Israeli airstrike hit a hospital in Gaza yesterday, killing at least 500 people, including patients, wounded individuals, and forcibly displaced people seeking shelter.
