Twitter has taken a strong stance against its newly launched competitor Meta, threatening legal action over its newly launched app Threads.

Since its debut earlier this week, Threads has gained a substantial user base, posing a direct challenge to the Elon Musk-owned social media platform.

In a letter addressed to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Twitter’s legal representative, Alex Spiro accused Meta of unlawfully leveraging Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property.

The allegations stem from Meta’s alleged recruitment of former Twitter employees to develop Threads, which Spiro dubbed a “copycat” app, intensifying the already  simmering rivalry between the two social media giants.

Threads specifically targets users who are actively seeking alternatives to Twitter, dissatisfied with the changes Musk has implemented since his acquisition of the platform last year. As users flock to Threads, Meta’s app threatens Twitter’s market share and influence.

The outcome of the confrontation could significantly impact the future landscape of social media and the balance of power among the industry’s major players.
