Rabat– Moroccan police arrested a 33-year-old man on Thursday in connection with the alleged possession and trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances, following a joint operation carried out by judicial police officers in Kenitra and Morocco’s domestic intelligence services.
The suspect was apprehended on the outskirts of Kenitra shortly after arriving in a passenger vehicle from a city in northern Morocco, according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
A search conducted during the operation led to the seizure of 2,400 psychotropic pills, quantities of cocaine prepared for distribution, and a sum of cash believed to be linked to the suspect’s alleged drug trafficking activities.
Authorities have placed the suspect under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office. Investigators are seeking to identify potential accomplices and uncover any wider criminal network connected to the case.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the DGSN and the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST) to combat drug trafficking and the distribution of psychotropic substances across the Kingdom.
Moroccan security services have intensified anti-drug operations in recent years, targeting trafficking networks involved in the distribution of narcotics and prescription drugs, which authorities view as a growing threat to public safety and security.
