Rabat – Morocco’s National Airports Office (ONDA) forecasts a revenue of MAD 2.8 billion in 2022 as air traffic in the country is projected to reach 14 million passengers.

Meeting by videoconference on January 10, the Board of Directors of ONDA discussed the action plan of the 2022 budget on January 10 while highlighting the achievements Moroccan airports recorded in 2021.

In a statement following the meeting, ONDA stressed that a budget of about MAD 2 billion will be allocated to this year’s action plan, half of which will be for the further development of airport capacity.

Regarding ONDA’s achievements in 2021, the office’s expenditures reached MAD 832 million while its revenues stood at more than MAD 2 billion, a decrease of 52% compared to 2019 and an increase of 29% compared to 2020.

ONDA attributed the positive performance to the improvement in air traffic, which stood at 9.97 million passengers, representing 40% of the traffic achieved in 2019.

During the videoconference chaired by Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics Mohamed Abdeljalil, the Board of Directors recalled the investment projects of last year, such as  the new terminal at Nador El Aroui airport and the new temporary terminal for national transport at Mohammed V airport.

They also recalled the implementation of a new concept regarding direct routes in Moroccan airspace as well as the commissioning of various radionavigation and communication equipment.

The Council also discussed ONDA’s efforts to adhere to COVID safety measures and ensure the health of airport staff and passengers amid the pandemic.

“These efforts have enabled 16 Moroccan airports to obtain the Airport Health Accreditation label issued by the International Airports Council,” the statement concluded.
