Rabat – Sultan Moulay Slimane University (USMS) in Beni Mellal, is officially the first university in the country to approve the electronic signature of diplomas.

The USMS, which is ranked 7th among Moroccan universities, issues several thousand diplomas each year.

“With electronic signatures, the university will now be able to sign multiple diplomas at once,” said the university in a statement to Morocco’s state-owned media agency.

“This is a major operation which constitutes a performance engine, generator of resilience and motivation of users in terms of the use of information and communication technologies,” added the USMS statement.

The operation should be preceded by a thorough verification process, according to the same source, which also specified that the National School of Applied Sciences of Khouribga was officially chosen as a pilot establishment for the launch of the initiative.

The generalization of the procedure should be carried out gradually before the end of the current academic year.

“National and international recruiting institutions will no longer need to contact the university to verify the diploma’s authenticity,” specified the USMS, adding that this can now be done “directly online using the E-SIGN-USMS platform.”

During a meeting devoted to the perspectives of digital transformation, Director of the Maghreb and Malta department at the World Bank Jesko S. Hentschel pointed out that “since the start of the crisis linked to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), the Kingdom has accelerated its digital transition.”

“Today more than ever, digitization offers Morocco new development opportunities in order to streamline economic transactions or improve the provision of services to businesses and individuals,” he added.

For her part, the Minister Delegate in charge of digital transition and administrative reform, Ghita Mezzour, stated during the same meeting that “several projects are being implemented as part of “ENNAJAA”, a public administration digitization program.”

The current digitization initiatives aim to contribute to the development of the education sector in Morocco, as well as the improvement of public administration efficiency.
