Rabat – Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, gave birth to her first child at 5:30 the morning of Monday, May 6, 2019, according to the Buckingham Palace. Prince Harry was reportedly by her side for the birth.

Buckingham Palace added that the royal couple’s first child, a boy who is yet to be named, was born weighing seven pounds and three ounces and that “the Duchess and baby are both healthy and well.”

The new addition to the British royal family is seventh in line to the British throne behind father Prince Harry, Prince Louis, Princess Charlotte, Prince George, Prince William, and Prince Charles.

The infant is Queen Elizabeth II‘s eighth great-grandchild. Prince Harry, the child’s father, is the youngest son of Prince Charles, who is the next in line to the throne, and the late Princess Diana.

Prince Harry told the media he is “incredibly proud” of his wife. “As every father and parent will ever say, you know, your baby is absolutely amazing, but this little thing is absolutely to-die-for, so I’m just over the moon,” he added.

Prince Harry said about being by his wife’s side for the birth, it was the “most amazing experience [he] could ever have possibly imagined.”

“How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension,” he said.

The birth comes just three months after the Duchess and Duke of Sussex visited Morocco for a three-day visit from February 24 to 27.

During their Morocco visit, the couple visited a school in Ansi, a small town in the High Atlas Mountains, as well as spending time with the Moroccan royal family and sampling Moroccan cuisine.
