Rabat – Michael O’Leary, chief executive of the low-cost carrier Ryanair, has said that Morocco is his company’s biggest market in the the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA).

O’Leary told Reuters that Morocco has 2.5 million passengers annually.

The second biggest market for Ryanair in the Middle East is Israel, with 1.3 million passengers traveling through Tel Aviv airport.

O’Leary made his remarks during an interview about the potential of the company in Amman, Jordan.

The CEO said that Ryanair aims to double its flights and passengers to Jordan by 2020.

“Jordan is Ryanair’s by far fastest (growing) winter sun destination. It’s growing faster than Morocco, Canary Islands, Southern Italy and Greece. You have an enormous potential here for inbound tourism,” O’Leary told Reuters.

The company just launched its 2019 Winter Campaign which includes flights to connect several Moroccan cities with France and London.

The new flights include Marseille-Essaouira, Bordeaux-Tangier, Toulouse-Tangier, and Essaouira-London.In addition to Essaouira and Tangier, Ryanair also serves the Moroccan cities of Agadir, Fez, Marrakech, Nador, Oujda, and Rabat.
