Rabat, May 27, 2012 (MAP)

Morocco strongly denounced the massacre in the Syrian town of Houla which left many innocent victims including children and called on the international community to assume its responsibilities in protecting civilians.

“The Kingdom of Morocco expresses deep concern following the savage massacre perpetrated in the region of Houla in Syria leaving large number of deaths,” Morocco’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

The deaths were caused by careless bombardments targeting unarmed civilians including children, the statement said.

Morocco vigorously denounces this savage attack that saddened Moroccans and whose impact will only aggravate the situation in Syria leading to an escalation of violence, the same source went on to say.

Such a massacre undermines all the international community’s efforts  to put an end to bloodshed in Syria and find a peaceful solution that meets the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people, added the statement.

Following this painful event, the Kingdom of Morocco reiterates its call on the international community to fully assume its responsibilities to protect the Syrian civilians from the killing machine targeting them and to set up efficient aid mechanisms for the refugees and civilians trapped in conflict zones.
