Casablanca, May 15, 2012

Eric Gerets, the coach of the Moroccan National Team, has unveiled the list of players who will represent Morocco in the two next game for the World Cup qualifiers. The Moroccan national team will play its first match against Gambia on 2 June 2012 and the second against the Ivory Coast on June 9, 2012 in Marrakech.

As hoped for by many Moroccans, many of the players who underperformed in the last African Cup of Nations were dropped from the list, at the forefront of which Merouane Chamakh, Adil Taarabt, Youssef Hajji, Mehdi Garcela and Youssef Qantari.

On the other hand, the list includes, for the first time in many years, 12 players from the Moroccan national league, including 3 players from the Maghreb of Fez, which won the African Federation Cup and the African Super Cup.

The list of players summoned by coach Eric Gerets is as follows:

Zakaria Bergdich, Nordin Amrabet, Ismail Aissati, Issam Badda, Michael Basser, Younes Belhanda, Mehdi Benatia, Abdelaziz Berrada, Abdelfattah Boukhriss, M’bark Boussoufa, Oussama Assaidi, Ismail Benlamalem, Chemseddine Chtibi, Issam El Adoua, Karim El Ahmadi, Yassine Salhi, Youssef El Arabi, Salahdine Saidi, Adil Harmach, Nadir Lamyaghri, Mustapha Mrani, Rachid Soulaimani, Ayoub El Khalqi, Samir Zekroumi, Aziz el Qinani, Houcine Kharja.

Eric Gerets, has been at the center of heated controversy in Morocco following the humiliating elimination of the Moroccan national team in the first round of the African Cup of Nations, held in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea from January 12 February. The overwhelming majority of Moroccan fans urged the Moroccan Football Federation to dismiss him and replace him with a national coach. African that fiasco, many still question still question his ability to qualify the Moroccan team to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
