At the United Nations headquarters in New York on Thursday, Abdelouahed Souhail—the Moroccan Minister of Employment and Training—said the Moroccan government has made the issue of employment a top priority.
“Aware that the problem of unemployment does not arise only in economic but also political and social rights, the government, in accordance with the spirit and principles of the new Constitution (…), and within its overall sustainable development strategy announced in the government statement, has placed the issue of jobs at the top of its priorities and concerns,” the minister said. Mr. Souhail was speaking before the annual review of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC/2-9 July), focusing on employment issues.
“We see employment as a key component of the integration of individuals within society, ensuring their dignity and genuine citizenship, to even allow them to play a central role in sustainable development in the context of a comprehensive approach,” the minister said. Mr. Souhail made these remarks at a session of ECOSOC funds under the theme “Macroeconomic policies to promote productive capacities, create decent jobs and sustainable development.”
In line with these guidelines and to accompany the major economic and sectoral programs of the kingdom in the fields of industry, agriculture, marine fisheries and tourism, the government program has stepped up public policies for the promotion of employment.
The data related to the distribution of job offers made available by the updated financial law of 2012 revealed that out of 26,204 positions, 10,133 vacant positions had been created by Moroccan candidates.
According to a document issued by the ministry in charge of the public sector employment and administrative modernization, these positions include jobs within the Ministry of the Interior and 1,000 positions in the Ministry of Justice and Freedoms. In addition to 961 offices to the Ministry of Economy and Finance there are and 800 offices for the General Department of Prisons and reintegration.
