CAIRO, Oct 24, 2012 (AFP)
An explosion went off as Egyptian police conducted an arrest operation at an apartment in northern Cairo early on Wednesday, a police official said.
The official could not immediately confirm whether there were any casualties, or whether any militants were involved.
Police suspected that the blast was caused by TNT which was stored in the apartment.
The Egyptian police force has been conducting sweeping operations against heavily armed criminals nationwide and also Islamist militants in the Sinai peninsula.
