Complaining: a destructive weapon that kills ambition

Taroudant- Complaining is an expression of pain or resentment that may develop later, without our consciousness, to a destructive weapon killing any attempt to form an ambitious and exhaustive idea about life. Most of the time we voice complains simply to get things off our chest, not to resolve problems and creatively find solutions to our daily life challenges.

We complain about congested roads, high prices of basic daily needs, inadequate conditions of hospitals and the widespread corruption in nearly all sectors. We complain about hot weather in summer, cold weather in winter, the decaying services of some domains in which we have a shared responsibility.

Generally, to whine about every single happening that is against our comfort is, I believe, a disease rather than a healthy practice that, sadly, some people excel at.

We complain because we don’t have good friends while we are the ones who don’t know how to be a good one. As teachers, we express our discontentment about the under-achievements of our students, when we, too, are not free of blame. As citizens, we always whine about the corruption that plague mostly all the sectors of our society. At the same time we don’t hesitate to give bribes when we are faced with law restrictions, or when we just can’t wait for our tasks to take the usual process and required time.

As husbands we put all the blame, for any inconvenience we may experience, on our wives, and, ironically, they in turn do the same. As students, we accuse our teachers for the terrible unsatisfactory educational level we are left with, whereas we lack willingness and motivation to actively engage in the learning and teaching process. As adults, we feel reluctant to assume our destiny and place the responsibility on our parents to secure a bright future for us, yet we hardly make any effort to realize what we long for.

Most people, who turn complaining into their pastime, don’t always realize that they are embarking in a vicious circle that leads them nowhere and kills any ambitions they may harbor. In fact, they usually think they, unlike the others, are simply telling the truth about the world. But if they really look carefully, they will notice that their woebegone statements are nothing but helpless complains.

Most people think that it’s not fair that others have more money than we do and that they have better opportunities to earn it. It is true that some people were born with a golden spoon in their mouth, but there are self-directed achievers.

We should be inspired by such successful men of action who made their wealth by the simple means and the great courage they have. The latter put aside their grievances, make use of what they have and focus on what they want to be. Instead of complaining, they try to find solutions. They discuss life matters in a more reasonable and balanced approach. They assume part of responsibility without excessively blaming the others or external factors for the misery they are in.

When you ask after a complainer, the answer you get embeds a sense of discomfort. We hear expressions like “Iwa ngulu labas” (let’s say it is alright) or “ngulu bikhir bash ntfadaw alash” (we say, we are good to avoid dwelling into the issue) only from people who have a negative attitude towards life. The wailers’ reply won’t miss an implicit message of whining that is revealed unconsciously through their statements.

I am of the opinion that no matter who, how rich, affluent, healthy, gifted or famous you are, you’re bound to have problems and you have to self-analyze your steps and be self-critical to improve in life journey. Only, the difference lies in the way we react to those problems. Some collect enough courage to face them; others excel in phrasing expressions of complaining to hide behind them.
