Communications are completely cut off between Riyadh and Doha. In the past few days, the two monarchies have been staring stonily at one another. The cause of this sudden crisis between the two countries which had made peace after a long estrangement is their position concerning the Egyptian crisis.
Riyadh has no sympathy for the power of the Muslim Brotherhood and has expressed its unequivocal support for the Egyptian opposition which tries to topple Islamist President Mohamed Mosri.
TV channel “Al Arabiya” whose editorial line is dictated by the Saudi capital, has decided to support the opposition to the Egyptian President, whereas “Al Jazeera” is clearly on the side of the Islamist power. This shows, according to observers, that profound differences exist between Saudi Arabia and Qatar in the Egyptian case, but also on the events in Syria.
