Lionel Messi wins the Ballon d’Or for the fourth consecutive season.During a ceremony held in Zurich on Monday, the Argentine footballer who plays as an attacker for La Liga club FC Barcelona, and the Argentina national team, was crowned world’s best player for 2012.
The 25-year-old from Rosario, Santa Fe scored 91 goals in 2012, breaking German legend Gerd Mueller’s 40-year-old record for the most goals in a calendar year.
Messi faced competition from his Barcelona’s team-mate Andres Iniesta and Real Madrid’s superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
Spain’s Vicente del Bosque was named FIFA World Coach of the Year 2012.
The 62-year-old coach Vicente del Bosque has won the 2012 Fifa Coach of the Year award after leading his country to their third consecutive major trophy at Euro 2012. Before being in charge of La Roja, del Bosque had previously won two Champion’s Leagues titles with Real Madrid, in 2000 and 2002.
Del Bosque faced competition from the Catalan coach Pep Guardiola and tthe Portuguese Jose Mourinho.
The two winners were elected by the coaches and captains of the national teams of the 209 FIFA Member Associations and a selected group of media.
