Microsoft revealed that hackers tried to attack their computers but without getting into customers’ personal data. This news comes after giants like Apple, Facebook and Twitter revealed that hackers had attacked their data base and failed to access their customer’s files.
“A small number of computers, including some in our Mac business unit” were affected by malware of the type described in the other attacks, general manager Matt Thomlinson said in a blog post on Microsoft Security Response Center.
Richard Domingues Boscovich, Assistant General Counsel at Microsoft Digital Crimes Unit, said that the company succeeded in neutralizing the Trojan and taking it down.
“I am pleased to report that the Bamital botnet remains offline. Additionally, since Microsoft was able to receive all of the computer traffic that had been connecting to the Bamital botnet, we are also seeing very positive cleanup results firsthand,” he said in post on the company’s official blog.
“Our preliminary data shows that as of February 18th, approximately 32 percent of the infected computers we had observed since the February 6th take-down are no longer part of the Bamital botnet. This promising reduction rate is largely due to the take-down of the botnet and victims taking action in response to the proactive notification process and available cleanup tools,” he added.
On Tuesday Apple was victim of a cyber attack when hackers tried to invade its system in an attack similar to one recently carried out against Facebook. The company moved to quickly repel the attack, which prevented the hackers from plundering its data.
