Moroccan poet and author Tahar Benjelloun is associated with the official delegation accompanying President François Hollande as “major witness” of Franco-Moroccan relations, a mission that a member of the Académie Goncourt in France perceives as “an honor.”
“When François Hollande asked me to accompany him on his state visit to Morocco, I felt that I am perceived as a symbol, which is a link between two cultures, two languages,” Mr. Benjelloun told MAP.
“I thank the French President for giving me this opportunity and express all my gratitude to my country that has made me what I am today, a writer who is much attached to his roots,” he added.
Born in Fez in 1944, Tahar Benjelloun taught at the very beginning of his career philosophy in a school in Tetouan, where he began to publish poems. He collaborated on the magazine “Souffles” with Abdelatif Laâbi and Mohamed Khair-Eddine (1968-1970).
