Bordeaux- Africa’s richest are getting richer, and Moroccans are among the biggest fortunes on the continent. Aziz Akhannouch, Minister of Agriculture, entered US magazine Forbes‘ listing for the first time.

Forbes’ third annual list of Africa’s Richest ranks 50 personalities from 10 countries, including, for the first time, Algeria. The number of billionaires in Africa has surged to 27, up from 16 a year ago. Ten years ago, there were only 2. South Africa clearly gets the top position, with 14 billionaires.

Nigeria’s Aliko Dangote, tops the list of Africa’s billionaires for the third year in a row with 20.8 billion, according to the same source. At 84 of age, Morocco’s Miloud Chaabi is the oldest person on the list.

Othman Benjelloun, Morocco’s richest man, is the 10th fortune of Africa, with a net worth of $2.8 billion. Close behind is Miloud Chaabi, who ranks 17th with $1.9 billion. He is also the oldest person on the list, at age 84. Only two African women are on the list, unchanged from last year. The latest Morrocan to make the list is Minister of Agriculture Aziz Akhannouch, with an estimated $1.4 billion fortune. Other Moroccans on the list include Anas Sefrioui (1.3 billion), Moulay Hafid El Alamy ($500 million) and Alamy Lazraq ($450 million).

The average net worth of each list member is $2.1 billion and the total wealth of Africa’s 50 Richest is $103.8 billion.
