SANAA – Southern Yemenis complain of discrimination, citing the dismissal of thousands of southerners from government jobs and confiscation of property
Separatist militants attacked several government offices on Saturday in the southern Yemeni province of Hadhramaut, eyewitnesses said.
According to witnesses, the militants attacked and looted the election commission premises in in the province and stormed the education faculty at the state-run Hadhramaut University.
The gunmen also tried to attack other government buildings in al-Mukalla, the capital of Hadhramaut, but were prevented by policemen, the witnesses said.
The attacks came one day after unrest and protests in southern Yemen, which reportedly left at least eleven people dead.

The government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi has earlier offered an official apology for the 1994 civil war and agreed to reinstate sacked southern employees and army officers.
The government has also created a fund to offer compensations for the sacked workers.
