CAIRO- At least 28 people were killed and scores others were wounded in a series of bombings and attacks that rocked Baghdad.

An explosion targeted a bus station in central Baghdad leaving three people killed and seven others wounded.

Four booby-trapped cars exploded in the vicinity of al-Ahdath prison, coinciding with an attempt by militants to break into the jail to free 21 convicts.

The blasts left eight people killed and 16 others wounded.

Two booby-trapped cars, meanwhile, exploded near a mall in western Baghdad, killing five people and wounding 16 others.

Blasts caused by booby-trapped cars in other neighborhoods of the capital killed eight people and wounded 21 others.

Mortar shell attacks in the Baghdad University neighborhood killed four people and wounded six others.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Three Iraqis were killed and seven others injured in a twin bombing at a marketplace in the northern city of Kirkuk earlier today.

Although most such attacks go unclaimed, Iraqi authorities usually point the finger at Al-Qaeda-linked militants.
