Rabat – The Moroccan government has allocated 5.6 Million Dirham in compensation for the 892 boats that were damaged in the most recent so-called ”mini-ssunami”, high waves that hit several Moroccan coast cities, such Casablanca, Sale, Rabat, and Agadir.
As per royal instruction, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries signed an agreement on Friday to allocate 5.6 Million Dirhams in restitution for boats that were destroyed when the high waves hit the Moroccan Atlantic coast.
Minister of Internal Affairs Mohamed Rabbah said that when King Mohamed VI was informed of the storm, “His Majesty ordered the government to bear the cost of the losses,” according to the February 15th issue of Al-Akhbar.
“Thanks to the coordination between the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, we were able to identify the owners of boats affected by the mini-tsunami,” he added.
Last January, the Moroccan coastline was hit by waves of unusual height (7 meters), which caused widespread flooding and damaged the boats of over 800 fishermen.
