Rabat – Avoiding Confusion between Islam and terrorism is a “shared responsibility” that requires, in particular, to face any threat that could stir up hostility against Muslims, especially in Europe, Government Spokesman Mustapha El Khalfi said Thursday.
The terrorist attack against Charlie Hebdo is “reprehensible”, and “talking about the risk of the resurgence of Islamophobia is justified”, El Khalfi said a press conference following the weekly cabinet meeting.
Reiterating the need to avoid amalgam between Islam and terrorism, the minister called for fighting all what could stir up hostility towards Muslims.
Given the large number of Moroccans living in Europe, “we are directly affected by this Islamophobia and the violence it could stir up,” the minister said, calling for facing this threat in accordance with the positions of the kingdom rejecting and condemning terrorist acts.
