Rabat, June 27, 2012 (MAP)

The United Kingdom and Morocco share strong political and are united by a cooperation that extends to a hitherto unprecedented range of issues, said UK Minister for the Middle East and North Africa Alistair Burt.

This cooperation covers the areas of business, security and foreign policy, particularly within the U.N. Security Council, Burt said in an interview with the Moroccan French-speaking newspaper “l’Economiste” issued Wednesday.

The purpose of his visit to Morocco, he said, is to continue discussions on these issues and discuss some of the milestones set in the UK this year, especially the Olympic and Paralympic Games where some 100 Moroccan athletes and more fans are expected.

As regards to cooperation in the field of political participation, Burt said the UK’s Arab Partnership Fund has supported projects backing the process of reforms, including that relating to the international network of young Arab analysts which allowed to discover a generation of young Moroccans, smart, communicators, talented, motivated, and determined to get involved in politics.

Referring to economic cooperation, the British diplomat said that the City of London, one of the economic success stories in the UK, is delighted to strengthen its cooperation with Casablanca Finance City.

In this regard, discussions are currently underway between The CityUK, the main body representing professionals in the City of London and Casablanca Finance City in order to create further partnerships between Britain and Morocco, he said.
