Rabat – A group of Moroccans have launched an online petition on Avaaz.org in which they demand the government to back down from its decision to observe daylight saving time.
The standard time of the Kingdom was advanced sixty minutes (GMT+1) starting from Sunday, March 29, 2015 at two o’clock in the morning.
The petitioners said daylight saving time (DST) has a negative impact on health and increases the risk of heart attacks and causes sleep disturbances.
The government, however, defends the decision to observe DST saying that it increases the competitiveness of the national economy by reducing the cost of energy bill and to facilitate transactions with regional economic partners, mainly Europe.
