Rabat- A Moroccan immigrant has been named “immigrant entrepreneur of the year” in Italy.
Abderrahim Naji from the city of Beni Mellal was named Thursday in the Italian capital “immigrant entrepreneur of the year as part of the 7th edition of MoneyGram Award.
The 48-year-old Moroccan national runs a small factory which specializes in producing molded plastic products especially for the automotive industry.
The annual MoneyGram Awards recognizes the most successful companies run by foreign entrepreneurs in Italy. According to statistics, 249,464 companies with foreign bosses were active at the end of 2011, including 41,223 companies run by Moroccan bosses.
The Moroccan immigrant employs forty people in his factory, including many other Moroccan immigrants. The company based in Padua (north) realized a turnover of €6.6 million in 2014 and is expected to reach 10 million euros in 2015.
“Moroccan youth are talented. Just give them a chance and trust them to see concrete results of their work,” Naji, who has been living in Italy since 1990, told MAP news agency.
The MoneyGram awards were presented at an official ceremony in Rome in the presence of a jury composed of eminent personalities from the economic, financial and academic Italian spheres.
