Rabat – Morocco obtained its first medal in Athletics World Championship, held in Beijing. Abdelaati Iguider ranked third in the final of the 1,500 meters, on Sunday.
Abdelaati Iguider crossed the finish line to secure the bronze in 3:34.67. The gold medal went to Kenya’s Asbel Kiprop while his team mate Elijah Manangoi took the silver in 3:34.63.

A bronze medalist from the London Olympics and Champion in the 2014 World Indoor Championships, Iguider obtained the third best timing for this year’s men’s 1500m division at three minutes 28.79 seconds on July 17.
Morocco selected a team of 22 athletes, including seven women athletes, to compete in the Beijing Athletics World Championships. The country hopes to go back on the podium after turning up empty-handed from the Moscow championships in 2013.
