Rabat – A new note released by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Morocco is the safest country in North Africa.

The note made available on the Ministry’s website says Morocco’s political and security situation allows the organization of professional and individuals trips to the North African country.

“The political and security situation allows the organization of professional and tourist trips to Morocco,” the Quai D’Orsay’s note said.

The release, however, calls on French citizens to be vigilant when traveling along Morocco’s southern borders with Algeria.

Tourists should be vigilant, “especially when traveling along the southern border with Algeria.”

French authorities urge French citizens planning to travel to the other North African countries (Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Mauritania) to be on high alert and avoid no necessary trips.

“Although the security situation has improved considerably in Algeria since the end of the “black decade” and though large cities, especially the capital Algiers, have a highly developed security apparatus, the country remains exposed to terrorist threat,” the French Quai d’Orsay says about the situation in Algeria.

“Because of the persistence of the terrorist threat, the greatest caution continues to be recommended to French nationals residing in Algeria or planning to travel there.”

Amid the political upheaval in the Arab world and the increase of attacks in North Africa, Morocco has managed to keep terrorist threats at bay.

A ranking established in early November by the British Foreign Office described Morocco as one the safest countries in the world. The same ranking pointed out that the risk if terrorist threats in Morocco is lower than in some European countries, such as France and Spain.
