Rabat – The current terrorism risk in Morocco has decreased to a safer and tourist-recommended level, according to the British Foreign Office (FCO) latest “terror threat around the world” map published by The Telegraph news.
Two months ago, British authorities warned Britons about Morocco’s “high terrorism threat”; however, the FCO has lowered the threat and ranked the North African country at the same level as the United States.
The British Ministry of Foreign Affairs has placed Morocco at a “threat level 3” – “average” (general) group category.
Morocco shares the same classification with countries such as Germany, Italy, and Canada among others illustrated on the interactive map.
Morocco and Mauritania the only country in the MENA region to earn an “average” rating (3), while the others ranked at “threat level 4” where the risk is “high”.
The Foreign Office, which protects and promotes the interests of the British community, recommends Morocco more than France, where the current threat level is “high-risk” (4).
According to the terror threat map, 30 countries were classified as “high-risk”, among those: Spain, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon Belgium, Australia, Russia, Colombia, Turkey, and even the United Kingdom.
On Monday, the FCO published a map where Morocco appeared as low-risk of crime and the only safe country in the MENA region.
“All regions of the Kingdom are safe”, the London-based office said, advising British citizens to travel to Morocco without worrying for their safety.
