New York – U.S. presidential candidate and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton released a statement after SMART – the sheet metal, air, rail and transportation workers’ union –endorsed her campaign for President.
Clinton now has the endorsement of 23 national labor unions or labor alliances representing over 12 million American workers, according to a Hillary for America press release sent to Morocco World News on Friday.
“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of SMART—the sheet metal, air, rail, and transportation workers’ union—and their 216,000 members,” Secretary Clinton said.
“SMART members have helped build America—and the American middle class, by fighting for higher wages, safe working conditions, and workers’ rights to organize and bargain collectively,” she added.
The leading Democratic candidate addressed workers represented by SMART saying she will work in favor of their goals and interests.
“As President, I will fight alongside SMART to protect workers’ rights to organize and bargain collectively, stay safe on the job, maintain their health benefits and retire with dignity,” Clinton said according to the same source.
She also committed to building a stronger infrastructure to strengthen the country’s economy, while creating more jobs and opportunities for American workers.
“And I will create more good-paying jobs by making significant investments in rebuilding and expanding our infrastructure—from rebuilding roads, bridges, and freight systems to modernizing our energy grid. Because to build a strong economy for the future, we need to start by building strong infrastructure today.”
Democratic strategist and advisor to the Hillary Clinton 2008 campaign Richard Goodstein commented on the recent endorsement from SMART, which proves American workers believe in the candidate’s ideals.
“This endorsement is just the latest in a long line of endorsements from groups convinced that Hillary Clinton is what this country needs to become even stronger. She has fought for workers her whole life, and it is nice to see them fighting for her,” Goodstein said in a statement sent to Morocco World News from his Washington D.C. offices.
