New York – Moroccan scientist Rachid Yazami earned a new honor in his outstanding career. He was recently ranked among the “10 Muslims who ruled 2015” by Muslim community website Mvslim.com.
In 2015, the Fez-native invented a chip that will change mobile phone technology. The chip will be capable of charging a battery in 10 minutes and sense damaged batteries that can explode cell phones.
His new invention is schedule to launch before the end of 2016, according to the HuffPost.
Engineer Yazami is also known to have invented the lithium battery in the 1980s. He owns over 70 patents related to battery technology.
In February 2014, the 62-year-old Moroccan was awarded the prestigious “Charles Stark Draper 2014 Prize” by the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) in Washington D.C., in recognition for his lithium battery invention.
The remarkable professor was also decorated with a Royal Medal by Morocco’s King Mohammed VI during the 15th Anniversary of the Throne Day in July 2014.
Rachid Yazami began his career at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CRNS) in France, where he became research director in 1998. Between 2000 and 2010, he served as a visiting professor at the California Institute of Technology.
He was later appointed as a visiting professor at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, where he became the Cheng Tsang Man Chair Professor in Energy at the School of Materials Science and Engineering.
Mvslim ranked Moroccan Yazami in fourth place in its list of “10 Muslims who ruled 2015”, behind singer Akon who was ranked in first sport, young inventor Ahmed Mohammed in second place, and comedian Hasan Minhaj in third place.
