Rabat  – King Mohammed VI launched, here Wednesday, the construction works of Works of Art & Culture House and Morocco’s National Archives Library, for an overall budget of 450 million dirhams.

These structuring projects, which are part of the 2014-2018 Integrated Development Program dubbed: “Rabat, City of Lights, Morocco’s Cultural Capital”, illustrate the High Royal solitude in favor of promoting and protecting Morocco’s intangible cultural heritage.

Located at the heart of Bouregreg Valley and carried out by Wessal Capital, these projects will become the symbols of Morocco’s reinvigorated cultural and artistic capital.

In addition to the Rabat Great Theater, these projects will further improve local population’s access to cultural and artistic facilities, and unleash youth intellectual and creative potential.

The 200-million-dirham Art & Culture House combines Morocco’s modern and authentic architecture.

Spanning over a surface area of 14,300 square meters, the four-level facility will include spaces dedicated to exhibitions, meetings between youngsters, artists and professionals (Moroccans and foreigners), training sessions for young talents with the ultimate goal of promoting the democratization of access to cultural and artistic expression.

As for Morocco’s National Archives Library, which will require a budget of 250 million dirhams, it is meant to enhance Moroccan archive through providing general public with access to digital archives, organizing thematic exhibitions on documentary heritage, training and raising awareness about safeguarding jobs, and archive digitalization and restoration.

Spanning over a surface area of 14,900 square meters, the future library will include spaces of enhancement (temporal and permanent exhibitions, digital experience, scenographic workshop), consulting (reading room, documentation and archive center), and training (classrooms, digitalization and restoration laboratories).
