Casablanca – Two people died and 54 were injured in the clashes that erupted in the stands of Mohammed V stadium in Casablanca, between two groups of fans of Raja Casablanca at the end of the match between their team and Chabab Rif al Hoceima, said a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), according to Maghreb Press (MAP).

According to preliminary data cited by the press, violent clashes erupted between fans of Raja just after the victory of their team. The incident caused several injuries and serious damage to public and private property.

“Two people died upon their arrival at the hospital, one was injured by a sharp object, while the other showed no apparent signs of violence, and 54 others were wounded and evacuated to hospital Moulay Youssef to receive the necessary care, “the statement said.

Outside the stadium, 11 private vehicles were damaged by stone throwing, the same source added, noting that the security operations conducted before and after the match led to the arrest of 41 people for their involvement in acts of vandalism.

The Casablanca police department opened Saturday night an investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor to determine the circumstances of these acts of vandalism and apprehend all those involved, the same source added.
