After a 2-0 victory over Panama, England are now preparing for the next stage of the tournament with Thomas Tuchel expected to take a closer look at his options and make a few tactical adjustments as the competition becomes harder.
Tuchel is expected to hand Djed Spence a starting role instead of Jarell Quansah, because of an ankle injury.
While Declan Rice is likely to return to the official lineup as the German coach weighs another key decision on the left wing.
Reece James remains sidelined because of a hamstring injury but is hopeful of returning later in the tournament if England progress further.
Tuchel’s biggest dilemma appears to be on the left flank, where Marcus Rashford and Anthony Gordon are competing for the starting place. The England head coach recently admitted that his team’s left side has lacked the chemistry between the players, although he insisted he still has full confidence in his players.
With Jordan Pickford, Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka all expected to retain their places in the starting XI, England will be aiming to secure a quarter-final at the expense of DR Congo.
Tuchel hopes the tactical changes will help the Three Lions produce a more balanced game as the World Cup enters its knockout phase.
