Rabat – American Hollywood star, Angelina Jolie, has been appointed a visiting professor  at the London School of Economics (LSE) beginning in 2017.

The Oscar-winning actress, filmmaker, humanitarian and longtime activist will be teaching students pursuing a master’s degree at the LSE’s Center for Women, Peace and Security. The acclaimed Hollywood star will teach alongside former foreign secretary William Hague at the British university.

Her course, “The Impact of the War on Women,” intends to develop strategies to promote gender equality and enhance women’s economic, social and political participation and security.

“I am looking forward to teaching and learning from the students, as well as sharing my own experiences of working alongside governments and the United Nations” Angelina Jolie said expressing her enthusiasm.

“I am very encouraged by the creation of this master’s program. I hope other academic institutions will follow this example, as it is vital that we broaden the discussion on how to advance women’s rights and end impunity for crimes that disproportionately affect women, such as sexual violence in conflicts,” she added.

The one-year course will run from the beginning of the 2017 academic year. An LSE spokeswoman said that Jolie and Hague would teach at least once a year for the period of their fellowship; “As often as their schedules and their commitment, as agreed with the center director, will allow.”
