Rabat – The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) announced disciplinary sanctions against players who appeared in a recent video smoking a hookah in a hotel room in Marrakech.
After the video caused a stir on social media, the Federation decided to ban players Fahd Moufi and Adnane Boumous from completing training with their colleagues.
Nasser Larguit, national technical director, decided to punish the players after consultation with FRMF officials.
According to the Federation, the decision comes after officials watched the video, in which players appear smoking a hookah in a hotel room in Marrakech. The room was booked by the national Olympic team.
After the video was widely shared on social media, Moroccan football fans denounced the act as one of “irresponsibility and disrespect” to the image of the national team. FRMF football players are strictly forbidden from smoking, drinking or engaging in other activities that may negatively affect their performance.
Hervé Renard, the national coach, was also outraged by the video, which, according to him, should lead to the outright dismissal of offenders.
The FRMF stressed that it will not hesitate to punish anyone who violates the rules or participates in acts that may tarnish the image of the national team.
