Rabat – The city of Fez will dedicate a museum to the collective memory of the region, honoring the rich culture and history of Morocco. The museum will consolidate the cultural and artistic institutions of Fez.

The regional council hopes to make the city the spiritual capital of the kingdom and improve cultural development and tourism in the region. It will be completed in 2019.

The budget of the museum will be MAD 80 million, coming from the Ministry of the Interior (MAD 27 million), the Ministry of Housing and Urban Policy (MAD 22 million), the Commune of Fez (MAD 9 million), the Prefectural Assembly of Fez (MAD 2 million), and the regional council (MAD 20 million).

This is one of many projects developed by the regional council, which has allocated MAD 366,600 million to the cultural development of the region. It also recently approved the establishment of an institution of fine arts in Fez, the first of its kind in the city.

Fez regional council hope that by preserving the collective memory of the region, restoring monuments and the medina of Fez, and providing a space for the study and display of Moroccan fine arts, new life will be brought to the city and make it a cultural center in Morocco.
