Rabat – A report by the German Military Intelligence (MAD) cited there are number of suspected extremists in the armed forces, including 64 Islamist and six left-wing extremist.
The largest group identified is the 268 right-wing extremists who are part of the German military. News wires are reporting the infiltration of Islamists, but the larger number of right-wing extremist has been overlooked.
The German Military Intelligence (MAD) is looking to uncover any and all infiltrators and may consider a more stringent screening process for future recruits, Die Welt reported yesterday.
It was reported in April that MAD found that 29 former German soldiers had left to join the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.
German suffered several attacks reported to be tied to the Islamic State.
Over the weekend, a German man and woman were attacked by a knife-wielding assailant who witnesses say shouted “Allahou Akbar,” reported The Mirror. The woman, 66, is reported to be in critical condition while the man, 57, suffered serious injuries.
In July, Muhammad Riyad, a 17-year-old Afghan refugee allegedly hacked several people with an axe on a commuter train in Wurzburg-Heidingsfeld. Four victims were left seriously injured.
The Islamic State claimed Riyad as a soldier of the caliph, on the group’s news agency, Amaq. There are more than 150,000 Afghan migrants in Germany.
Germans have expressed fear that more “lone-wolf” terrorist attacks will occur in the future.
More stringent security checks will be implemented before new recruits will be allowed to join the Bundeswehr, or German army. The German Military Intelligence will be the first line of defense in denying extremist, terrorist and criminals’ access to military training in the Bundeswehr.
