Rabat – Moroccan boxer, Mohammed Rabii, has obtained his ticket for the semi-finales of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games after he brilliantly beat his opponent, Donnelly Steven Gerard from Ireland.
The Moroccan boxer qualified to quarterfinals of the competition after he defeated Kenya’s Rayton Nduku Okwiri on Thursday.
Rabii rose to fame in October 2015, after he won the welterweight world championship in Doha, becoming the first Moroccan boxer to win the title.
Rabii became also the first African and Arab boxer to win the gold medal in the World Boxing Championships.
With his qualification to the semi-finals, Morocco secures its first medal in the Rio Olympic Games.
