Rabat – Morocco and Sweden share a common commitment to boost their relations, said on Wednesday in Rabat, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Salaheddine Mezouar.

In a statement to the press following talks with his Swedish peer, Mezouar praised the centuries-old ties between the two countries, adding that 250 years of diplomatic relations is a sign of a historical depth and a friendship built through time.

Rabat and Stockholm also share a common understanding of world issues in which we live today, the Minister said, noting that “relations between the two countries are motivated by a “determination and a willingness to work hand in hand” to deepen and broaden the perspectives of these relations.

He welcomed the commitment of Sweden to promote human rights and women’s role, welcoming the participation of the Swedish Foreign Minister in an International Conference, held in Rabat under the theme “Women, peace and security.”

For her part, Swedish Foreign Minister, Margot Wallström, described the talks as “very open, frank and friendly.”

Besides the economic and trade relations, Wallström said she had discussed with her Moroccan peer political issues, including the fight against terrorism, migration, conflicts in the region and women’s role.
